HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/24/1951 - Special Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING July 24, 1951 The City Council met in special session at 7:30 p.m. with the following members present: Mayor Langford, Councilmen Badgett, Boyer, Fitch, Halpin; City Secretary McGinnis, City Managers Rogers, Assistant City Secretary Boswell. Visitors present: F. B. Clark, F. L. Thomas, D. B. Cofer, C. R. Rainwater; Kenneth Irish of the Bryan News,.Frank Davis of the Battalion; A. P. Boyett. The purpose of the meeting was to canvass the returns of a special election and public hearing on the budget for the year 1951-52. The returns of the special election were canvassed by the Council, and upon motion of Councilman Halpin, seconded by Councilman Badgett, the results were declared to be: For A. P. Boyett 16, for W. H. Freiberger 12 (by write-in). Mr. Boyett was declared elected to fill the unexpired term of E. E. Ames from Ward 3 and was then administered the oath of office by the mayor. .Mayor Langford then gave a brief summary of the year's activities and explained the proposed budget for 1951-52. After various questions and answers concerning the budget, the Council then considered it more in detail, and upon motion by Councilmen Badgett, seconded by Councilman Halpin, the budget was approved as presented.
