REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
April 9, 1951
The City Council Met in regular Session at 7:30 p.m. in the evening of
April 9, 1951, with the following present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen
Badgett, Boyer, Fitch, Halpin, and Orr; City Attorney Barger; City
Engineer Benson; City Manager Rogers; Assistant City Secretary Boswell,
and City Secretary McGinnis.
Visitors present at this meeting of the Council were: Dr. J. D.
Lindsey, Marvin D. Wjitehead, Cliff K. Ransdell, and Gilbert Irish
of the Bryan News.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Badgett, that
Mr. J. Wheeler Barger be appointed City Attorney.
The Council Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Mayor Langford administered the oath, - of - office to %UnCilmen
W. HDIWAI--d Baclgett, Harry L. Buyer, and William. D. Fitch; also, City
Attorney J. Wheeler Barger.
Mr. Marvin D. Whitehead came before the Council to discuss the
control of run ® off waters above and on Munson Street. City Engineer
Benson outlined what had been done and the Work now in progress to
Correct this trouble. The discussion was terminated by the following:
Councilman Badgett made a motion, Seconded by Councilman Orr,
that the City finish the Work it is now doing and then after another
rain observe the results and act accordingly.
The Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
City Manager Rogers and Mi. Cliff H. Ransdell reported on a study
of the Sunday morning parking problems near. the Churches at the North Gate.
It was decided to Continue, for the present, the parallel parking as is
now being done and to make Lodge Street a one-way street from Church Street
V the Highway. A "Reserved" section on Lodge Street immediately in
the rear of the Baptish Church for the Pastor and Educational Director
was authorized.
Dr. Lindsey appeared before the Council to protest the non -conformity
of numbering of the houses on the north and south sides of Walton Drive.
He stated that his number if 1019 and that directly across the street is
1030. Mr. Boswell was directed by the Council to Correct these errors
and re - assign numbers.

Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Badgett,
that; Mayor Langford be authorized to pay an $15, 500,00 note held
by the College Station State Bank; this money to come from the
Water Revenue Bond Fund as was authorized by the voters at the polls.
The Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
The Council appointed Lessers. W. 1. Truettner, Crisman, Carl
Birdwell., and A. P. Boyett to constitute the Equalization Board for
the current administrative year.
Mayor Langford appointed ifix. E. E. Vezey as chairman of the
zoning Commission to replace Mr. C. 0. Spriggs who has resigned.
Councilman Halpin made a mot0n., seconded by Councilman Badgett,
that Ordinance No. 1.56, an ordinance creating a Board of Equal.izat:i_on
for the year 1951 and fixing the time of meeting.
The Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman, Halpin made a motion, seconded by Councilman Boyer, that
the Battalion be made the official newspaper for the City of College Station.
The Council_ vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
