IQ C., Cb Im CITY COUNCIL MEETING November 13, 1951 The City Council met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. November 13, 1951, with the following members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Badgett, Boyer, Boyett, Fitch, Halpin, Orr; City Attorney Barger; Assistant City Secretary Boswell; City Manager Rogers; City Secretary McGinnis. Visitors present: L. G. Jones., C. J. Keese, T. E. McA!ee, W. A. Streich Jr. representing the Battalion. Ordinance No. 166, an ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 119, was approved. Ordinance No. 119 was an ordinance concerning regulation of traffic within the City of College Station. Ordinance No. 167 entitled "The Traffic Code of 1951 for the City of College Station" was unanimously approved and its caption ordered published. By unanimous vote Ordinance No. 168, an Ordinance ordering a special election for the adoption or rejection of the proposed City Charter, was adopted. The date of January 8, 1952, was set as the date of the election. This action was taken following certification by the Chairman andSecretary of the Charter Commission that the proposed charter is ready for printing and distribution. The Mayor was authorized to publish notice of the special election for January 8, 1952, such notice to be posted in three public places within the city and to be published officially in the Battalion. The City Manager was instructed to order and place all signs necessary for traffic regulations. On.motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Fitch, the Council adopted that portion of the recommendations of the Citizenst Traffic Committee under date of September 10, 1951 with amendments to read as follows: PARKING: The North Gate Area of College Station be zoned for parking as follows: A. 1 -HOUR PARKING LIMIT (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Sundays and holidays) 0011-10 z; City Council Meeting November 13, 1951 Page Two 1) North Side of FM60 from Stasney Street to a point approximately 200 feet east of Boyett Stredt. 2) Both sides of Main Street from Church Street to FM 60. 3) South side of FM 60 from intersection of Tauber and FM 60 to intersection of Main Street and FM 60. B. 6 -HOUR PARKING LIMIT ( S a.m. to 5 p.m. except Sundays and holidays) South side of FM 60 from Traffic Circle to Old Highway 6, exdept as noted in A-3,and the North Side of FM 60 from a point 200 feet east of Boyett Street to Old Highway No. 6. Councilmen Badgett and Boyer were appointed to constitute a special committee to consider the possibilities of purchasing and developing a park site for the negroes of the community. A petition signed by T. E. McAfee, L. G. Jones and others requesting certain road work was tabled pending further collection of monies from all property owners concerned . The City Manager was authorized to confer with the City Erg ineer relative to placing a three foot pipe in the dam in the lake area of College Park. APPROVED: ~ Mayor ATTEST: 14 co
