December S, 1952
The City Council met in regular session Monday evening, December 8, 1952,
at 7:00 o'clock with the following present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Badgett,
Boyett, Fitch, Pugh and Sorrels; City Attorney Barger; City Manager Boswell and
City Secretary McGinnis.
The following visitors were present at this meeting: W. E. Nash, C. G.
White, S. M. Cleland, A. E. Denton Jr., H. W. Barlow, T. J. Valenta, H. S.
Ransom Jr., Mrs. F. E. Weick, D. D. Burchard, L. S. Richardson, INirs. Norman
Anderson, Nets. W. A. Price, W. A. Price, J. F. Fowler, Mrs. Carroll Laverty,
C. D. Laverty, J. S. Rogers, 1% A. Johnson, Mrs. J. E. Davis, Mrs. J. W. Divine,
J. W. Divine, E. E. Brown, C,„ A. Bonnen, and Harri Baker.
Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that the
City Attorney be instructed to prepare an ordinance closing the alley between
Stasney and Nagle streets. The alley is immediately behind St. Mary's Chapel
and lies between Lots 3 and 4 and 2 and 5 in Block 6 of the Tauber addition.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
A large group of interested citizens met with the Council. to discuss the
.recreation program for the city. Mr. D. D. Burchard, Dean H. W. Barlow and
Mr. G. G. White spoke for the group. They presented to the Council a copy of
an ordinance designed to create a City Recreation Board and to establish a
Recreation Fund.
No action was taken by the Council.
The Board of the A & M Consolidated Independent School District came before
the Council to discuss an increase in property valuations of the district so
that bonds might be sold at a more favorable price.
No action was taken by the Council.
The Council discussed the City Engineer's report on his study of the
sewer situation for the Holick addition.
Councilman Fitch made a motion, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, that the
Chairman of the Committee on Sewerage Disposal Investigation request the City
Engineer to have an additional survey made to obtain more information on the
sewerage problems.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
