HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/10/1952 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilREGUTAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING March 10, 1952 The City Council met in regular session March 10, 1952, with the following members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Badgett, Boyer, Boyett, Fitch, Halpin and Orr; City Manager Rogers: Assistant City Secretary Boswell, and City Secretary McGinnis. Former City Engineer Fred J. Benson and Christie Orth, reporter for the Battalion, were present as visitors. Mayor Langford, in behalf of the City Council and the City of College Station, presented to former City Engineer, Fred J. Benson, a three piece set of luggage in recognition of his many years of faithful and efficient service to the City as City Engineer. Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Orr, that the city manager be authorized to request bids from Ford automobile dealers, located near College Station, to exchange our police car, plus cash, for a new car to be used by the Police Department. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Halpin made a motion, seconded by Councilman Badgett, that the City Manager be authorized to expend a sum not to exceed $700.00 to increase the wages and salaries for the city employees for the balance of the fiscal year. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Boyer made a motion, seconded by Councilman Boyett, that the City Manager be authorized to submit a bid of around $500.00 for a particular A. & M. College truck now being advertised for sale. This truck is the one now owned by the Department of Horticulture. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Halpin, the Mayor was authorized to ask the city attorney to prepare a contract between the city and J. C. Culpepper relative to extensions of services into the Oak Terrace Addition, such agreement to embody among others the following conditions: Item 1. The city will pay cost of extension of six-inch water line to said addition and the cost of all six-inch mains installed therein, as well as the cost of all fireplugs installed in said lines. J Regular City Council Meeting March 10, 1952 Page Two Item'2. The City will pay cost of all two-inch water lines in said area. Item 3. The city will pay cost of all sewer mains in said addition. Item 4. Mr. Culpepper will agree to build houses of sufficient number and proximity to each other as to guarantee that the cost to the city in maintaining its policy of extending lines one hundred feet per connection will 'not be exceeded. Item 5. Mr. Culpepper will agree that all streets shall be graveled to a minimum depth of six inches, finished to a minimum width of twenty feet, and hard -surfaced with two courses of hot asphalt and gravel according to city specifi- cations. Item 6. Mr. Culpepper further agrees that he will bear the initial cost of all work enumerated in Items 1, 20 3; that the city may reimburse him for these costs as it is able and only out of net earnings accruing from the Oak Terrace Addition; and that he will take the city's note without interest if such a note is necessary to consummate the final agreement between him and the city.
