HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/09/1952 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilREGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING June 9, 1952 The City Council met in regular session on June 9, 1952, with the following members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Badgett, Boyer, Boyett, Fitch and Pugh; City Attorney Barger; Assistant City Secretary Boswell, and City. Secretary McGinnis. The following visitors were present at this meeting: M. D. Whitehead, Dr. Sylvia Cover, T. E. McAfee and Bill Carll. Mr. Whitehead discussed the drainage problem on Munson Avenue and requested some relief from the City Council. No official action was taken at this meeting. Mayor Langford presented the following to the Council: "In com- pliance with Section 42 of the city charter, Mr. Ran Boswell is authorized to perform the duties of city manager Until such time as a manager is appointed and qualifies". Signed Ernest Langford, Mayor. .A petition from 11 property owners on Fairview Street, South, requesting that the street be blacktopped was presented to the Council and was accompanied by cash in the amount of $597.30. This amount represents a full assessment of thirty-three cents per linear foot on the street and is an estimated two-thirds of the cost of the blacktopping. Acting City Manager Boswell. was instructed to get quotations on the b7.acktopping of Fairview and other streets that are ready for improvement. Councilman Badgett discussed the opening of Meadowland Street in the College property at the request of a property owner -on the street. No action was taken by the Council. Councilman Fitch made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that the Mayor be authorized to renew a note in the sum of $/+,598.81 at the College Station State Bank. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Mr. Bill Carll appeared before the Council and requested that the City participate in the cost of the paving to be laid in excess of the twenty feet as agreed upon at a prior Council meeting, in the Oak Terrace addition. Regular City Council Meeting Page Two June 9, 1952 Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Boyett, that the Mayor notify Mr. Culpepper that the city is unable to participate in the cost of the added paving in the Oak Terrace addition. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. The City Council set Tuesday, June 17, 1952, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall as the date for the public hearing on the 1952-53 budget. The Council adjourned and willrgeet in a called session at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 1952, at the College Station State Bank for a discussion of next year's budget and the proposed new electric rates.
