Z CITY COUNCIL MEETING
May 17, 1954

The City Council met in regular session Monday evening, May 17, 1954,
with the following present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Black, Boyett, Orr,
Pugh, Seeger and Sorrels; City Attorney Barger; City Manager Boswell and
City Secretary McGinnis. Coulter Hoppess and Eugene Rush were present as
visitors.
Upon recommendation by Mayor Langford, Mrs., W. W. Armistead was
appointed as a member of the City Recreation Board for a term of three years,
to succeed Mrs. W. H. Delaplane.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, that Mrs
J. C. Culpepper be tendered the sum of $19,000.00 for the purchase of the
water and sewer lines in the Oak Terrace addition constructed under an
agreement as embodied in the minutes of the regular council meeting of
March 10, 1952, and that such funds be paid Mr. Culpepper upon his delivery
to the City of all necessary instruments making such conveyance effective.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Mr. Coulter Hoppess accepted the tender for Mr. Culpepper.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Black, that Ordinance
Number 190, an. Ordinance authorizing and empowering the Mayor to borrow
certain monies, be adopted.
L The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
0 Councilman Sorrels made a motion, seconded by Councilman Orr, that
Mayor Langford and City Manager Boswell be authorized to negotiate for the
purchase of Lots 6, 7 and 22, Block 11, W. C. Boyett Addition, for a sum

00 The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
rl Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Black, that the
X City Manager be authorized to negotiate for an audit of City accounts for
p the fiscal year ending June 30, 1954.
Z The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.

Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, that.
Mayor Langford be authorized to revise the official seal of the city.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that the
salary of City Manager Boswell be fixed at $7,000.00 per year beginning
July 1, 1954, and that the 1954-55 budget include $2,000.00 for an
adjustment in salaries and wages of employees.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Black made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that
the date for the public hearing on the 1954-55 budget be set for June
21, 1954.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Mr. Eugene flush presented a petition requesting restoration of the
lake in College Park. The opinion of the Council was expressed that
a property owners in the vicinity of the lake area should share in the
cost of such restoration, if not in fact pay the entire costs of restoration
(=� and maintenance.
