0 Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Anderson, Boyett,
CYC Landiss, McCall, Orr, Sorrels; City Engineer Benson; City Manager
Boswell; City Attorney Dillon; City Secretary McGinnis.
Visitors present: Fowler B. Welch, Mrs. Marion C. Pugh,
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Knapp, Melvin Schroeder, B. B. Hamner, W. D. Fitch,
Mrs. Ed Powell, representing the Bryan Eagle, Johnny Johnson, repres-
enting the Battalion, Ed Tear, representing KBTX-TV; and some 30 stu-
dents from A & M College.
Minutes of the previous two meetings were read and approved.
City Engineer Benson submitted preliminary estimates for certain
street improvements and stated that he would have final estimates by the
time of the next council meeting, or possibly before.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Sorrels,
City Attorney Dillon was authorized to work with A & M College authorities
in the matter of filing a protest against the discontinuing by the Texas
and New Orleans Railroad Company of its agency in College Station..
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Landiss,
City Manager Boswell was authorized to attend the International City
Managers' Association meeting in Dallas October 19-23, and to be re-
imbursed for actual expenses incurred.

City Manager Boswell asked for council discussion on establishing
procedures on street construction and assessments and forms to be used
therefor.

On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Anderson,
the mayor appointed the following committee to work with City Engineer
Benson to study these and related questions: J. A. Orr, Chairman, (
J. H. Sorrels, C. E. Dillon, S. R. Wright; City Manager Boswell a dulSae
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman McCall, the
city manager was authorized to accept the bid of Browning-Ferris Machinery

Company in the amount of $1,337.50 for the purchase of a roller for the
street department.

A letter from Marion C. Pugh dated August 18, 1958, concerning

possible use or sale of certain of his property was read. The mayor

appointed Councilman Landiss and City Manager Boswell to constitute a

committee to discuss this question with Mr. Pugh.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Sorrels,

The mayor appointed Councilman Anderson and City Manager Boswell
to study the recommendations of the auditor regarding retention of cer-
tain city records for action at the next meeting of the council.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Orr,
Councilman Sorrels was appointed to represent the City of College
Station on a committee to be composed of various local agencies to ex-
plore all possible future sources of water for public and industrial
use.
Mr. Fowler B. Welch discussed the possibility of securing a site
for a National Guard armory. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by
Councilman Boyett, Mayor Langford, City Manager Boswell, and Mr. H. E.
Burgess were appointed to constitute a committee to represent the city
in working with Mr. Welch and his committee in this program.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss,
Ordinance No. 270, an ordinance providing for a public hearing on the
a question of certain zoning, was passed and approved and ordered published.
��- On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Orr, City
�® Manager Boswell was directed to confer with officials of St. Thomas
Episcopal Church relative to parking on the north side of Jersey street
between Dexter to Lee streets and to erect no -parking signs along that
LTJ area within sixty days if the church can arrange for off-street parking
in that time.
W On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Landiss,
G- the mayor and city manager and the chairman of the Planning and Zoning
Commission were authorized to attend a meeting of the Texas Society of
Architects in San Antonio October 29-31, 1958, and to be reimbursed for
expenses incurred.
The council set 7:00 p.m., October 20, 1958, as the hour for a
0 public hearing on Ordinance No. 270, an ordinance proposing certain
changes in Ordinance No. 38.
The council adjourned subject to call.
