0 MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING

April 9, 1958
The city council met in special session at 5:00 p.m. with the fol-
lowing present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Anderson, Boyett, McCall, Orr,
Sorrels; City Secretary McGinnis; City Attorney Dillon; City Manager Boswell.
Those present constituting a quorum, among other proceedings transacted was
the following:
ORDER DECLARING RESULT OF CITY .ELECTION
That said election was duly called; that notice of said
election was given in accordance with law, and that said
election was held in accordance with law, and that
Ernest Langford was duly elected mayor of said city at
said election and A. P. Boyett, Carl W. Landiss, and
J. H. Sorrels were duly elected councilmen at said election,
and said above named parties are hereby declared duly elected
to said respective offices, subject to the taking of their
oaths as provided by the laws of the state of Texas.
Passed and approved this 9th day of April, 1958.

Councilman Orr introduced a resolution and order and moved its
adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson, and the motion
carrying with it the adoption of the resolution and order prevailed by

the following vote: Ayes: all present; Noes, none.
The resolution is as follows:
There came on to be considered the .returns of an election
held on the lst day of April, 1958, for the purpose of
electing the hereinafter named officials, and it appearing
from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were

cast at said election 437 valid and legal votes; thai.each

of the candidates in said election received the following

votes: (For mayor: Ernest Langford 388, D. B. Cofer 32,

Don Dale 1, T. R. Timm 1, J. A. Orr 2, IV. M. Potts 1,

J. H. Sorrels 2, 11. E. Redmond 1; For councilman: Ward 1,
Frank B. Brown 50, Carl W. Landiss 164; Ward 2,
J. H. Sorrels 96, Troy D. McElroy 76, David R. Fitch 2;
Ward 3, B. J. Fluker 21, A. P. Boyett 28.-

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS:
That said election was duly called; that notice of said
election was given in accordance with law, and that said
election was held in accordance with law, and that
Ernest Langford was duly elected mayor of said city at
said election and A. P. Boyett, Carl W. Landiss, and
J. H. Sorrels were duly elected councilmen at said election,
and said above named parties are hereby declared duly elected
to said respective offices, subject to the taking of their
oaths as provided by the laws of the state of Texas.
Passed and approved this 9th day of April, 1958.

April 9, 1958
Messrs. Langford, Boyett, Landiss and Sorrels having been duly
elected, their oaths of office were subscribed to and filed with the
city secretary.
Upon recommendation by the mayor and approval by the city council,
Messrs. N. M. McGinnis, C. E. Dillon, F. J. Benson and Phillip Goode were
re -appointed respectively to the offices of city secretary, city attorney,
city engineer, and city judge, their terms of office to run with that of
the mayor.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, the

city manager was authorized to grant the erection of a temporary sign
r
at the Redmond Terrace Addition, the granting of such permission to be
j in strict accordance with zoning regulations, and provided further that
the sign shall be removed on or before October 15, 1958.
