JULY 31, 1959
Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Anderson, Boyett, Landiss,
Orr, Smith; City Manager Boswell; City Secretary McGinnis; City Attorney
Dillon.
Visitors present: Messrs. Lawrence Parker, L. V. Halton, R. M. Anderson,
Hill Lytle, Justin E. Kidd, Richard Vrooman, William Moore, Charles Pinnell,
E. E. Burns, Jerry Dougan, and W. F. Adams.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Orr, the low
bid of $7900.00 from B -W Construction Company for alterations to the City
offices was acepted, subject to negotiation for possible reduction in cost.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the low
bid of $18,099.00 submitted by the Porterfield Asphalt & Gravel Company, Inc.
for paving of Lee Street was accepted, subject to the approval of contract
documents by the city attorney.
Mr. W. F. Adams, representing the local Kiwanis Club requested that the
city consider the use of funds and equipment for certain improvements in the
Kiwanis Club Park. After some discussion it was agreed that Councilmen
Anderson and Sorrels would go over the request with Mr. Adams and report to
the next regular meeting.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the city
manager was authorized to ask for bids for the installation of signal lights
at the intersection of Highway #6 and F.M. 60, and Highway #6 at the East
Gate of A. & M. College campus; the instructions being that equipment, in
general, would be equivalent to that submitted by the Kar-Trol Signal Com-
pany, Inc. in correspondence of July 29, 1959; and that if no lower bid is
presented, the Kar-Trol Signal Company, Inc. be accepted.
The motion was passed with Councilman Smith voting "no".
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Orr, the city
manager was authorized to secure bids on a new car to be used by the police.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Orr, the city
manager was authorized to accept the low bid of $550.00 submitted by Bryan
Tractor & Implement Company for the purchase of a grass cutter.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Boyett, petitions
for improvements of (1) Cherry Street from Tauber to Nagle, (2) Cross Street
from Tauber to Nagle, (3) Second Street from Church to Cherry, (4) Cooner
Street from Highway #6 east to MacArthur Street, (5) Francis Drive from Munson
Avenue east to the end of the street, were accepted subject to the city
manager's checking all the signatures of property owners on Cooner Street

The request of Mr. Don Dale for certain work to be done by the city in
the South Knoll Addition was discussed at considerable length. The mayor then
appointed Councilman Anderson, Chairman, and Councilmen Boyett and Landiss to
constitute a committee to discuss this question with Mr. Dale and report at
the next regular meeting.
Councilman Anderson reported that the committee appointed to consider the
possible dedication of certain areas for park purposes by developers of sub-
divisions was still working on the question and had no report to be made at
this time.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Smith, the city
manager was authorized to advertise for bids for street improvements on Glade
and Park Place streets.
The council was adjourned subject to call.
