MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
April 270 1959
Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Anderson, Boyett, Landiss,
Smith, Sorrels; City Manager Boswell; City Secretary McGinnis; City Engineer
Benson.
Visitors present: Sam Spence, representing the Battalion, Mr. Floyd
Godwin, Mr. W. H. Badgett, and Mrs. Robert A. Knapp.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, Messrs.
J. B. Hervey and A. L. Rosprim were appointed to serve on the Planning and
Zoning Commission to fill the vacancies left by Messrs. Robert F. 'White and
Wm. A. Smith.
On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Landiss, Mayor
Langford, City Manager Boswell and Councilman Orr were reappointed as repre-
sentatives of the city on the board of directors of the Brazos Area Planning
Corporation.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Anderson, full
and final payment in the amount of $9,444 to Spencer J. Buchanan and Associates
for engineering services was authorized.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Boyett, petitions
for street improvements on Glade Street from Park Place to Anna Street and on
Park Place from Timber Street to Glade Street, were received, and these two
units designated as a street section.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Anderson, City
Manager Boswell was authorized to employ Mr. Nelson D. Durst to audit the city
records for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1959.
On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the mayor
was authorized to renew a note in the amount of $3,000 at the College Station
State Bank.
On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Ordinance
No. 280, an ordinance ordering improvements of certain streets, was passed and
approved subject to checking by the city attorney.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Boyett, the re-
quest submitted by Mr. Floyd Godwin relative to the city's imposing of an oc-
cupational tax was referred to the city attorney for study.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, the
city manager was authorized to complete the grading, graveling and oiling of
Lincoln Street from HighWAy 6 to University Drive.

On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the
city manager was authorized to attend the annual meeting of the International
Municipal Finance Officers Association in Montreal, Canada June 7 - 110 1959,
and to be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in making the trip.
/ On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the
mayor was authorized to appoint a committee of two to serve with the city
attorney to consider the enactment of an ordinance which will provide that
future subdivisions of the city shall dedicate certain portions of such areas
(� for park purposes; and that the committee also be directed to consider the
possible purchase of the remaining lots adjacent to the present city property
a on Highway 6 by negotiation or condemnation procedures.
i® On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Smith, the
council adopted as a policy that in the future a list of citizens who will
serve in the capacity of election judges or clerks will be submitted to the
UW city manager prior to any election by the councilmen representing the respec-
tive wards.

(L On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the
dS city manager with the advice of the city engineer, was authorized to erect
no -parking signs on the north side of Jersey Street from Pershing Street
to Dexter Street, and that courtesy tickets be issued for any violations

for a period of thirty days or more as deemed advisable.

m The mayor was directed to inquire into the status of study of reflectors
on islands along Highway 6.
The city manager was instructed to check into the possibility of the use
of voting machines for city elections.
The council adjourned subject to call.
