A RESOLUTION OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE
STATION EXPRESSING AN INTEREST AND INTENT TO APPLY FOR
FREQUENCIES AND FINANCIALLY PARTICIPATE IN THE JOINT
PURCHASE OF AN 800 MGHTZ SERIES RADIO SYSTEM IN ORDER TO
PROACTIVELY MEET FCC MANDATED RADIO SYSTEM CHANGES.
WHEREAS, the FCC has mandated all public agencies switch to high
frequency radio systems by the currently estimated date of 1995, and;
WHEREAS, several local government entities in Brazos County are proactively
anticipating this mandated change and making appropriate plans to meet the
mandate, and;
WHEREAS, these entities have identified significant cost savings through a
cooperative purchase of this radio system thus reduce duplication of effort and
total cost to the individual entities, and;
WHEREAS, these entities have identified significant benefits of a joint
application and purchase of an 800 MGHRTZ radio system including improved
coordination of public safety functions during situations that cross entity
boundaries, improved coordination of public utility radio systems throughout the
county, and more comprehensive radio coverage throughout the county, and;
WHEREAS, since frequencies for these radio systems are being applied for
and issued by the FCC, there is great importance in getting the frequencies
assigned by the FCC as soon as possible, and;
WHEREAS, the City of College Station has agreed to coordinate the
application process and serve as project manager for the eventual
implementation of the new 800 MGHTZ system, and;
WHEREAS, the entities who participate in the 800 MGHTZ system purchase
agree to pay their respective portion of the cost, with current estimates as
shown in attachment A, (but which may change some as the implementation
dates near).

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING
BODY OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION THAT:
The governing body of the City of College Station agrees to authorize the joint
application of 800 Megahertz radio frequencies as mandated by the FCC to
meet the mandates in a proactive manner. Also, be it resolved that once these
frequencies are granted by the FCC, implementation of the new frequencies
would be requested to be delayed until 1996. It is further agreed by the City of
College Station that the City of College Station will serve as project manager
and assemble a project team with representatives from the various
governmental entities participating in the project. Also, be it resolved the City
of College Station will commit funds to pay for its portion of the project as the
implementation date approaches.
