HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-16-94-3 - Resolution - 11/16/1994q so[ution RESOLUTION NO. 11-16-94-3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE RETENTION OF THE STATE USDA AGRICULTURAL STABILIZATION & CONSERVATION OFFICE IN COLLEGE STATION. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of College Station has been advised that the United States Department of Agriculture is considering the relocation of its state office now located in College Station, and; WHEREAS, this office contributes significantly to the economy of the Cities of College Station and Bryan through the provision of 51 jobs and potential for additional jobs should it remain in College Station, and; WHEREAS, this office also adds to the local economy of College Station and Bryan by generating an estimated $350,000 for the local hotel/motel and commercial real estate industries, and; WHEREAS, similar state offices through out the country are located at a state capital or near a land grant university, and; WHEREAS, College Station, with the land grant university Texas A & M University located in its corporate limits offers the local Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service a premier academic and research institution with strong ties and resources in the numerous fields directly related to the services the AS & CS provides, and; WHEREAS, there are other agencies currently located in College Station whose mission is in an agriculturally related field that provide support and assistance to the efforts of the College Station AS & CS, and; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS THAT: The College Station City Council officially state its strong support for the continued location of the State USDA Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service in College Station for the afore mentioned reasons and strongly urge this agency to reconsider any plans that agency may have for any proposed relocation. ADOPTED AND APPROVED BY THE COLLEGE STATION CITY COUNCIL THIS 16th DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1994. Hooks City Secreta~
