WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Texas has ordered a
Special election to be held in the State of Texas on Tuesday, November 4,
1997 for the purpose of adopting or rejecting proposed Constitutional
Amendments as submitted by the 75th Legislature, Regular Session, of
the State of Texas; and,
WHEREAS, the City of College Station has ordered a Special
Election to be held Tuesday, November 4, 1997 for the purpose of
determining whether said governing body shall be authorized to proceed
with funding of a Convention Center; and,
WHEREAS, Section 27J .002(b) of the Texas Election Code
authorizes more than one political subdivision to enter into an agreement
to hold elections jointly; and,
WHEREAS, the City of College Station is desirous of conducting the
city election jointly with Brazos County which is cost effective and
convenient for the voters of Brazos County and College Station; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS THAT:
(~) An interlocal agreement shall be jointly signed by both parties
which outlined the terms and conditions upon which said election shall be
conducted.
(2) Submission be made to the Attorney General, Civil Rights
Division, Voting Section, Department of Justice, Washington, D.C.
requesting preclearance of this Resolution pursuant to Section 5 of the
Federal Voting Rights Act.

CONSIDERANDO QUE, el Gobemador del Estado de Texas ha ordenado una
Elecci6n Especial que se llevar~ a cabo en el Estado de Texas el Manes, 4 de Noviembre,
1997 para el prop6sito de adoptar o rehusar cualquier Adici6n Constitucional propuesta
como 1o submite la Legislatura No. 75, Sesi6n Regular, del Estado de Texas; y,
CONSIDERANDO QUE, la Ciudad de College Station ha ordenado una Elecci6n
Especial que se llevarf, a cabo el Martes, 4 de Noviembre, 1997 para el prop6sito de
determinar si dicho cuerpo govemante estar~ autorizado para proceder con el
financiamiento de un Centro de Convenciones; y,
CONSIDERANDO QUE, la Seccion 271.002(b) del C6digo Electoral de Texas
autofiza que mas de una subdivisi6n polftica entre en acuerdo para que se lleven a cabo
elecciones conjuntameme; y,
CONSIDERANDO QUE, la Ciudad de College Station quiere llevar a cabo una
elecci6n municipal en conjunto con el Condado de Brazos que es mas efectiva
economicamente y conveniente para los votantes del Condado de Brazos y College
Station; y,
AHORA, QUE SEA RESUELTO POR EL CONSEJO MUNCICPAL DE LA
CIUDAD DE COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS QUE:
(1) Un acuerdo interlocal ser~ juntamente firmado por las dos partes que va a
delinear los t6rminos y condiciones en cual dicha elecci6n se llevar[ a cabo.
(2) Sera submitido al Attorney General, Civil Rights Division, Voting Section,
Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. pidiendo que se acepte previamente esta
Resoluci6n de acuerdo a la Secci6n 5 del Federal Voting Rights Act.
