HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/27/1949 - Special Minutes - City CouncilNOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITY ATTORNEY OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special meeting of thr> City Coi?ncil of the City of College Station will be held on the 27th day of Sept y 1949 at the City Hall in said city at 8:00 p. m. for the purpose of passing on matters as follows: 1. Presentation of a petition from the residents of Breezy Heights and Southeast College Park for admission into the city limits of College Station. 2. Authorization by the council for the mayor to sign three notes as follows: $ 3,000.00 equipment note to be renewed 6,013.14 note for Cooner Street warrants 7,500.00 note for budget equipment 3. Letter from Dr. Clark. 4. Appointment of city health officer and an assistant: Dr. T. 0. Walton, Jr., Health Officer Mr. H. N. Cleere, Assistant Health Officer 5. Street maintenance in The Knoll, by the city, at cost; to be charged to ^'committee living in the area. Dated the 27th day of September, 1949. Councilmen City Attorney 00294 �� MINUTES OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING 27 September 1949 Members present: Mayor Langford, Councilmen Badgett, Black, Fitch, Halpin, Orr; City Attorney Barger, City Secretary McGinnis, City Manager Rogers. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. On motion by Orr, seconded by Halpin, City Manager was authorized to gravel the parking area in front of A & M Consolidated School, at an approximate cost of $136.00. This action followed verbal permission previously given by each Councilman to reconsider its action of the regular meeting of August 15. A petition from residents of Breezy Heights and Southeast College Park to incorporate certain of those areas into the city limits was found to be in order by the City Attorney. On motion by Orr, seconded by Black, the petition was approved and these areas accordingly incorporated into the city limits. On motion by Orr, seconded by Black, Ordinance No. 138 was approved. On motion by Badgett, seconded by Orr, the Mayor was authorized to sign three notes at the College Station State Bank, the notes to be in the amounts of $3,000., $6,013.14., and $7,500, respectively. Messers. Badgett, Benson, and Rogers were authorized to work out a system of charges for the rental or use of the city's ditching machine. On motion by Badgett, seconded by Fitch, the Girl Schuts were given per- mission to string a banner within the city limits announcing Girl Scout Week for November 1 - 5. On motion by Orr, seconded by Halpin, the City Manager was authorized to work out an agreement with Mr. C. I. Miller in the matter of Mr. Miller's using the rear part of the cemetary property for grazing purposes. It was stipulated that neither feeding nor plowing within this area would be permitted. Orr. On.motionZ, seconded by Badgett, the City Manager was authorized to employ a second police officer. It was the opinion of the Council that the City Manager might properly approach the various business men of the City with the view of their participating in the cost of a second officer, especially if night patroling throughout the business area is maintained regularly. The Mayor was requested to extend to the officials of A & M College the appreciation of the Council's invitation to be guests at the barbecue prior to Villanove game and guests at the game following.
