NUMBER 5-8-97-7-g
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS,
it is apparent the creation of a Federal District Court in Bryan/College
Station would be helpful to business, law enforcement and the citizenry
since access to a Federal Court is currently only thorough the Houston
Division of the Southern District of Texas, which happens to serve one of
the largest population centers in the United States; and,
the creation of a six county Federal Distdct Divisional Court, consisting of
Brazos, Gdmes, Madison, San Jacinto, and Walker Counties of the State
of Texas would provide the citizenry of all counties greater access to the
Federal Court System; and,
WHEREAS,
legislation is to be introduced in Congress creating this Federal
Divisional Court by Senator Phil Gramm and Senator Kay Bailey
Hutchinson; and,
WHEREAS,
it is in the best interest of the Brazos Valley and more specifically
Bryan/College Station for this Federal Divisional Court to be located in
these communities to serve its citizenry; and,
WE NOW, THEREFORE, hereby resolve that the College Station Council, after
hearing the history and need for the creation of this new Federal
Divisional Court, endorses this proposition and will lend appropriate
support to aid in the creation of the new Federal Divisional Court. We
further direct that a copy of this resolution be immediately forwarded to
both Senator Gramm and Senator Hutchinson to demonstrate the
widespread support for this needed project.
We have set our signatures to this document on this 8th day of May for the
purpose of supporting and endorsing this resolution to obtain a Federal
City Secretary
District Divisional Court for Bryan/College Station, Texas and for the
Brazos Valley.
