BUDGET WORKSHOP MEETING
August 26, 1998 at 11:30 a.m.

Councilmembers Silvia, Anderson, Esmond
COUNCILMEMBERS ABSENT: Mariott and Hazen

Mayor Mcllhaney opened the meeting at 11:30 a.m.
Agenda Item No. 1 -- Discussion of proposed budgets from Public Utilities and
Police Department.
Public Utilities Director John Woody introduced the management staffin the Public
Utilities Department. He presented a summary of budget figures projected in FY 98-99.
Bob Pohl described the electrical distribution budget. Questions from council related to
future power supply, transmission line cost, and electric deregulation.
Water/Wastewater Supervisor Bill Riley presented the proposed budget for water and
wastewater funds. He gave an update on the joint water supply project with Bryan and
TAMU. The objective of the project is to develop an operation similar to the BVSWMA
landfill operation.
The next presenter was Police Chief Ed Feldman. He presented an overview of the
accomplishments during FY 97-98. He focused on the successes of the community
policing program. Issues addressed in the proposed budget relate to the increased demand
for support services within the police department.
No action was required.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
