WHEREAS, the City Council of College Station on May 28, 1998, unanimously passed a
resolution urging Congress to reinstate full stateside funding of the Land and Water
Conservation Fund with provisions to distribute funding to local municipalities for the purpose
of protecting vital natural and urban resources and open space in our City and cities across the
nation ensuring that our natural resources endure for future generations; and,
WHEREAS, on November 10, 1999, the House Resources Committee approved by a 37 to 12
vote a $3 billion per year conservation bill (HR 701) titled The Conservation and Reinvestment
Act (CARA) which included a guaranteed appropriation each year of $450 million per year for
the stateside funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas would receive approximately $250 million of the $3 billion
guaranteed by CARA; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Kevin Brady as a member of the House of Resources Committee
voted in support of CARA; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas:
1. That the City Council urge Congressman Brady to continue his efforts to sign this Act
into law in the current Congressional Session, and do thank him for his support of this
legislation in the House Resources Committee; and
2. That the City Council encourage other members of the local congressional delegation to
support the passing of CARA; and
3. That the City Council direct the City Manager and his staff to distribute a copy of this
resolution to the local congressional delegation.
4. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage.
