A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE HOUSTON 2012 FOUNDATION'S EFFORTS TO BID
FOR AND RECEIVE THE 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES
WHEREAS, the City of Houston, Texas desires to become the Host City for the Olympic
Games in 2012; and,
WHEREAS, the Houston 2012 Foundation is working to bring the Olympic Games to
Houston; and,
WHEREAS, both the private and public sector of the City of Houston are strongly
dedicated to achieving Houston's maximum potential as an international city and both
see the establishment of Houston as an international sports city to be a natural and
important step in fulfilling that potential; and,
WHEREAS, hosting the Olympic Games in Texas will give the world an opportunity to
see and enjoy the abundant natural beauty of Texas; and,
WHEREAS, the Olympic Games further a spirit of cooperation among diverse nations
and cultures of the hemisphere and the worlds; and,
WHEREAS, hosting the Olympic Games in Texas will encourage economic development
of the State by providing substantial economic benefits and invaluable publicity to the
region, including the City of College Station, and to the State; and,
WHEREAS, the City of College Station, Texas, deems it in the public interest to support
the Houston 2012 Foundation's efforts to bid for and receive the Olympic Games in
2012; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas:
PART 1:
The City of College Station recognizes that hosting the Olympic Games in
Houston, Texas would provide substantial economic benefits and
invaluable publicity to the region and the State.
PART 2:
The City of College Station hereby pledges its support and encourages the
City of Houston's efforts to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
PART 3:
That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its
passage.
ADOPTED this 27th day of February, A.D. 2000.
