A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION,
TEXAS, COMPLEMENTING GOVERNOR RICK PERRY FOR HIS TRANSPORTATION
AGENDA AND THE CONCEPT FOR THE TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR AND
ENCOURAGING THE CREATION OF A NEW TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR FOR
THE BRAZOS VALLEY REGION.
WHEREAS, the City of College Station, located in the Brazos Valley, continues a rapid growth
rate and is located in one of the fastest growing, most populous area in Central Texas and the
State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, over 67,000 people live, work and recreate in College Station making it their
home due to the excellent quality of life made possible by the low cost of living, the ever
increasing employment opportunities, the cultural and recreation activities; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station is only 92 miles from the growing Houston
metropolitan area, 90 miles from Waco, 104 miles from Austin, 166 miles from San Antonio, and
180 miles from Dallas and Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station, the City of Bryan, Brazos County and Texas A &M
University as an urbanized area of over 150,000 population does not have a continuous four -lane
divided highway connecting it to the rest of the State; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station is the home of Texas A &M University and with over
44,000 students, is the 4th largest university in the nation, employing over 12,000 employees;
WHEREAS, the University offers extensive intellectual and cultural advantages such as the
President George Bush Library and Museum to the Brazos Valley Region, the State and the
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Texas A&M University, as one of the largest engineering schools in the nation,
attracts students from throughout the State of Texas, the entire United States as well as from
abroad; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station, the City of Bryan, Brazos County and Texas A &M
University all share the same transportation goals and objectives for a transportation corridor to
serve the Brazos Valley region; and
WHEREAS, the Brazos Valley region is in the heart of the most populated area of the State of
Texas that includes the cities of Austin, Dallas -Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, this central location provides the State of Texas with an ideal opportunity for a
new corridor to reduce the congestion on other major corridors, to improve safety and to serve
the Brazos Valley all in support of the Governor's Trans Texas Corridor Plan.

, 116 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION,
TEXAS:
PART 1: THAT the City of College Station desires to provide a safe, efficient and
economical transportation corridor to connect the Brazos Valley Region to the
major metropolitan areas in the State of Texas.
PART 2: THAT the City of College Station supports continued study of a transportation
corridor, generally running in a northwest to southeast direction from IH 35 E
through Brazos County to the City of Houston and the Harris County area, by
the Texas Department of Transportation as part of the Governor's Trans Texas
Corridor Plan.
PART 3: THAT the City of College Station requests that the Texas Department of
Transportation make a recommendation to the Texas Transportation
Commission to approve the creation of this transportation corridor and to further
study the positive aspects of this corridor as part of the Trans Texas Corridor
Plan.

PART 4: THAT the State Legislature fund the Texas Mobility Fund and support the Texas
I Congressional Delegation in the reauthorization of TEA -21 to provide the
necessary transportation funding necessary to fund the States' existing
j transportation funding shortfalls and the proposed Trans Texas Corridor Plan.
PART 5: THAT this resolution shall be circulated to interested parties including the Texas
1 Congressional Delegation, the Governor of Texas, members of the Texas
Legislature, TTC, TxDOT, Cities, Counties, Chambers of Commerce, the media
and others, and is so accordingly ordered.
