HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/12/1949 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING January 12, 1949 Members present; Mayor Langford; Councilmen Ames, Orr, Halpin and Badgett; and City Manager Rogers. Visitors present; C. A. Bonnen, Co B. Godbey, E. E. Brown, and Charles LaMotte, representating the A. & M. Consolidated School. Board. The mayor presented a general summary of the expenses to which the city has been put during the calendar year 1948 for the collection of taxes for the A. & M. Consolidated School. He suggested that the council and the school board employ a full-time person and that the salary be pro -rated so that the school board pay two-thirds and the city one-third; that this employee be attached to the city office and be directly responsible to the city manager. This suggestion was approved generally and will be presented to a full meeting of the school board .for final disposition. The council adopted the 1948-49 budget. The mayor reported of a conference with Chancellor Gibb Gilchrist relative to extension of electric lines in College Hills. On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Halpin, the city manager was authorized to begin extensions of electric lines to College Hills when approval has been received from the Board of Directors of A. & M. College. The mayor was authorized to address a letter to each property owner on Cooner Street advising that suit would be entered against each owner unless the initial payments for paving were made by February 15, 1949. The city manager was authorized to purchase two new trucks and to borrow $3000.00 from the College Station State Bank for payment of same.
