HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/06/1948 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilCALLED COUNCIL MEETING December 6, 1948 Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Ames, Orr, Halpin, Badgett and Black; City Engineer Benson; City Attorney Barger and City Manager Rogers* After a discussion of the Rules and Regulations of. the College Station Cemetery dated November 4, 1948, Councilman Orr moved that the rules be adopted. Motion was seconded by Councilman Halpin and the vote was unanimous. The Council decided that Mrs. Patranella would be offered the job of selling as many lots as possible with the following provisions. That twenty-five per cent of the purchase price of the lot be received in cash as the initial payment. That Mrs. Patranella receive ten per cent of the initial payment, and an additional five per cent of the unpaid balance as it is paid. That the unpaid balance on each lot bear four per cent interest per annum. Councilman Halpin moved the council adopt the above decisions. Motion was seconded by Councilman Ames and the vote was unanimous. The Council appointed L. P. Dulaney as the City Building Inspector. The Council appointed Lee Norwood as the City Fire Marshal. The Council directed City Manager Rogers to place official signs of the City of College Station at such locations as the Council might designate. a. No parking on Patricia from Main Street one block north. b. That the space in front of the bus station on Patricia be reserved for taxi cabs. c. That parallel parking be permitted on Alain Street from Farm Highway No. 60 one block west. d. That angle parking be permitted on east side of Farm Highway No. 60 on gravel shoulder only. e. That angle parking be permitted on west side of Farm Highway No. 60 should the highway officials permit from Tauber Street south to Old Highway No. 6. f. That angle parking be permitted on east side of Patricia from Main Street one block south. g. That no parking be permitted on north side of Tauber from Farm Highway No. 60 west a distance of fifty feet. ho That angle parking be permitted on Boyette Street from Farm Highway No. 60 to Patricia Street. 0Ow" 72 Page 2, Minutes of Called Meeting, December 6, 1948 i. That center parking be permitted on Farm Highway No. 60 for unloading of commercial vehicles only. It was agreed that Tuesday, January 21, 1949 be the date for the City Council dinner. Each councilman is to invite one leading citizen and to especially invite Chancellor Gilchrist, President Bolton, Mayor Vick and Judge Ware. The City Manager was instructed to arrange for the dinner. Councilman Orr moved that the city publish, as provided by law, the notice for a proposed change in the zoning regulations governing the restriction of thickness and type of walls in the Second Class Business District as recommended by the Zoning Commission of September 9, 1948. Motion seconded by Councilman Halpin and the vote was unanimous. A motion was made by Councilman Halpin, seconded by Councilman Ames, that effective January 1, 1.949 the salary of the City Manager be increased to $$4300.00 per annum, and that of the Assistant City Secretary be increased to $$3600.00 per annum. The vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. The Mayor appointed a committee of Councilmen Orr and Halpin, and City Engineer Benson to determine the policy of the city toward developers of a Subdivision. Councilman Orr made a mot;:m that no new extensions for water be made outside of the city limits. Motion was seconded by Councilman Black and vote was unanimous.
