HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/12/1948 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilREGULAR COUNCIL MEETING May 12, 1948 Members present:: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Badgett, Black, Brown, Halpin and Orr: City Secretary McGinnis and City Manager Vaughn. Visitors present: L. D. Smith and Henry TAiller. Councilman Orr made a motion that the council grant the request of Mr. J. C. Culpepper that the city grant an easement of fifty feet along the North edge of the small park located in Block 1 of College Hills, this being along the South side of Lot 1, Block 1, College Hills and 35 feet along the west side of this park and adjacent to a 15 foot alley running north and south. Motion seconded by Councilman Black and the council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Brown made a motion that the City install an adequate drainage pipe under the street at the intersection of Fairview and Park Place and to fill holes in other streets as urgently needed. Motion seconded by Council- man Halpin and the council vote was unanimous in favor of •the motion. Councilman Orr made a motion that City Ordinance No. 119 be read and adopted by the council with the emergency clause. This ordinance pertains to regulating traffic upon the public streets, alleys and other thoroughfares in the City of College Station. Motion seconded by Councilman Brown and the council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Mayor Langford was instructed to accept the proposal of Mr. D. P. McAlpine to audit the city accounts in accordance with terms set forth in his letter of May 8, 1948. Mayor Langford called a Town Meeting to be held in the Consolidated Gymnasium at 7::30 P. M. on May 25 for the purpose of discussing the improvements to the city streets and other city problems. There will also be a discussion of the city's budget for the next fiscal year.
