HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/11/1948 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING February 11, 1948 The City Council met in regular session with the following members present: Mayor Langd18rd; Councilmen Ames, Badgett, Brown, liarrington and Orr; City Secretary McGinnis; and City Manager Vaughn. Visitors present were: Mr. Whitis, Supt. of A. 6 M. Consolidated Schools, C. A. Bonnen and C. Be Godbey. Bounoilman Badgett made a motion creating Ordinance No. 111, an ordinance authorizing an election be held in the City of College Station on the first Tuesday in April (April 6) for the purpose of electing a Mayor, three council- men and a City Secretary. This motion was seconded by Councilman Harrington and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Orr made a motion creating Ordinance No. 112, an ordinance authorizing a Board of Equalization for the City of College Station for the year 1948 and appointing A. P. Boyett, Chairman, W. I. Truettner and E. 0, Sieeke. This motion was seconded by Councilman Harrington and the Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Badgett made a motion that the City Manager notify all merchants concerned in the North Gate Area that the City would discontinue taking garbage from the garbage rack now located on the Boyett property in the rear of Charlie's Food Market on March 1, 1948. This motion was seconded by Councilman Brown and the Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Harrington made a motion that the City increase the pay of all City employees as follows: City Manager to $4,500.00 per year; all office employees $20.00 per month; and authorizing the City Manager to adjust the pay of all others on the City payroll, this adjustment retroactive to February 1, 1948. Councilman Orr seconded the motion and the Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Badgett moved that Ordinance No. 113 be passed, an Ordinance Auditing and Allowing Estimate and Authorizing the Delivery of Warrants for the third and final estimate of the City Office and Warehouse building. Seconded by Councilman Ames and the Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Orr moved that Ordinance No. 114 be passed, an Ordinance proposing to rezone certain areas within the city limits, fixing the time of publication and public hearing. Seconded by Councilman Ames and the council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Brown moved that Ordinance No. 115 be passed, an Ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 90. This motion seconded by Councilman Harrington and the Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. AyRr(ff Attest Mayor City Secretary
