HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-22-01-10.03 - Resolution - 03/22/2001RESOLUTION NO.: 03-22-01-10.03 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION URGING THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO APPROVE A HB3162, BY REPRESENTATIVE BROWN AND ITS COMPANION BILL IN THE SENATE, SB1474, BY SENATOR OGDEN, AUTHORIZING MUNICIPALITIES TO ACCEPT CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS AND ALLOWING A CITY TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT WOULD CHARGE A FEE TO THE PERSON USING THE CREDIT CARD FOR PAYMENTS TO THE MUNICIPALITY. WHEREAS, the State of Texas through the Comptroller of Public Accounts is supporting the expansion of the use of the Internet and electronic services by government; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature of the State of Texas has allowed counties to accept credit card and other electronic payments without charging a fee for payments made by credit card; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station, Texas wishes to be allowed to make a decision as to whether it would charge a fee for making payments by credit card; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station, Texas supports the passage of HB3162 and SB 1474: now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1: PART 2: That the City Council hereby urges the 77th Legislature to approve HB3162 and/or SBI474. That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the offices of the Governor Rick Perry, Lieutenant Governor Bill Ratliff, Speaker of the House James E. Laney, Senator Steve Ogden, Representatives Fred Brown and Lois Kolkhorst. PART 3: ADOPTED this 22nd day of March, A.D. 2001.
