HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-26-2005-11.03 - Resolution - 05/26/2005 RESOLUTION NO. 5 -26- 2005 -11.03 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, REQUESTING THAT THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ( "TXDOT ") ESTABLISH A 45 MPH CONSTRUCTION SPEED ZONE ON A SECTION OF FARM -TO- MARKET ROAD 2154 ( "FM 2154 ", WELLBORN ROAD) BEGINNING 300 FEET SOUTH OF CAIN ROAD AND EXTENDING TO APPROXIMATELY 1,700 FEET SOUTH OF GRAHAM ROAD. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation ( "TxDOT ") is preparing plans to widen FM 2154 beginning at FM 2818 to approximately 700 feet north of Barron Road from its current two -lane configuration to a six -lane divided roadway with a raised median (referred to collectively herein as the "Project "). The Project is anticipated to begin in May 2006 and is estimated to take up to 3 years to complete; and WHEREAS, to facilitate construction, provide a safe environment for the traveling public and construction crews, and maintain access to adjacent property, TxDOT is pursuing the use of low profile concrete barrier along the edge of the work zone; and WHEREAS, low profile concrete barriers cannot be used unless the speed limit is 45 mph or less; and WHEREAS, a construction speed zone of 45 mph is necessary to reduce the existing 55 mph speed limit of the roadway during construction; and WHEREAS, speed control is of major importance during construction of the Project to promote safety for both motorists and workers; and WHEREAS, the City desires that TxDOT establish a 45 mph construction speed zone on a section of the FM 2154 beginning 300 feet south of Cain Road and extending to approximately 1,700 feet South of Graham Road; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1: That the City Council hereby requests that TxDOT establish a 45 mph construction speed zone on a section of the FM 2154 beginning 300 feet south of Cain Road and extending to approximately 1,700 feet South of Graham Road. PART 2: That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after Nib me this passage. ADOPTED this 26 day of May, A.D. 2005.
