HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/13/1946 - Regular Minutes - City Council MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING June 13 1946 Members presents Mayor Langford; Councilmen Crawford, Harrington, Orr, Wilcox; City Manager Smith; and City Secretary MoGinnis. Visitors present: J. H. Binney, J. C. Culpepper, Coulter Hoppess, Francis Vaughn. Mr. Culpepper met with the Council to discuss the extension of sewers and water mains in the Woodland Acres adjacent to College Hills Estates. He was requested by the Council to submit to the City Manager a detailed outline of sizes and locations of all extensions. The request of Mr. Daniel Russell to build a heater room at the rear of his building was approved provided the structure should be fire-proof throughout and not frame construction covered with galvanized iron. Mr. Hoppess presented a request that the franchise recently granted to Smith-Burley-Smith for the operation of buses within the city limits be assigned to the Bryan-College Traction Company. The Council took the position that a better prooeduve would be the approval of an entirely new franchise and the cancelling of the franchises granted to Smith-Burley-Smith and Bryan-College Traction Company and requested Mr. Hoppess to submit such a proposal at his convenience. The Council appointed Mr. Frank Seale as temporary electrical inspector. The Council ordered an auditing of the eity's books as soon as practicable after June 30, 1946. The Council and Dr. Binney agreed that the Mayor should address a letter to property owners who would be affected if Lots 4 and 5, Block 1 of College Park were zoned to Bisttiot No. 4, First Business District, to determine their reaction prior to any formal hearing on the request1 A meeting of the City Council was called for 5 p.m. on June 17 to consider the appointment of a city manager to succeed Mr. Smith and an ordinance vacating a street in the Cooner Addition.
