HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/17/1944 - Regular Minutes - City Council 11::) MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 17, 1944 Members present: Mayor Langford, Councilmen Orr, E. E. Brown, R. L. Brown, Harrington, Crawford, Wilcox, and Business Manager L. D. Smith. Mr. James W. James was present to discuss the question of rent control. The Mayor was authorized to address a letter to the Houston Office to request that additional help be given Mr. James. . Mr. Smith reported that Mr. F. R. Brown had been relieved of his duties as Electrical Inspeotor at the advice of the Business Manager of A. & M. College. Mr. Smith was appointed by the Mayor and Council to serve as electrical inspector pending the appointment of a regular electrical inspeotor as no one seems to be available at this time. Mr. Smith was given the power to deputize Fred Seale as an assistant until the regular electrical inspeotor was appointed. Mayor Langford, Councilmen Crawford and Orr, and Mr. Smith l I • were authorized to present a request for reduction in service charges to Acting President F. C. Bolton. Mayor Langford, and Mr. Smith were authorized to interview the Bryan-College Traction Company relative to inaugurating a regular run through the City. Upon petition of Elmo Bell, Sam Pierce, and Louis Fieldmen, the following tract of land was admitted to the city limits: Being all of that certain tract located on the northwest side of College Hills Estate and commencing on west line of said College Hills Estate, 944.9' from the east line of Highway 6 and at the point where the city limits now strikes College Hills Estate on the Old Lincoln road; thence north 45 west 340' to an iron stake; thence north 45 east 1687.1' to a stake; thence south 47 east 340' to the north corner of College Hills Estate; thence south 45 west 1687.1' to the place of beginning. Ordinance #76 calling for a general election on April 4, 1944 was adopted. The following resolution was adopted: 11:::)1 • 0139 3L MINUTES, FEBRUARY 17, 1944--PAGE 2. RESOLUTION Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of College °tation, Texas, that the question of adopting the City imager. Plan as authorized by Rouse Bill 728 be submitted to a vote of the legally qualified voters of College Station at the regular April election.
