HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/12/1943 - Regular Minutes - City Council Minutes of Regular Meeting of the City Council, August 12, 1943 Members present: Mayor Langford, Councilmen E. E. Brown, R. L. Brown, Crawford, Wilcox, Business Manager Smith. The Mayor reported that the action of the Council of July 8, 1943, in approving a recommendation of the Zoning Commission was not legal, that proper notices had not been published or posted, and that the whole question should be referred to the Commission for further action. Accordingly, upon motion of Mr. Crawford, seconded by Mr. E. E. Brown, Ordinance Number 73 was adopted, and the City Secretary was instructed to post or publish all notices as required by the Zoning Ordinance. The whole question was the referred a second time to the Zoning Commission. Y The Council authorized Mr. Smith to countersign all checks, but requested the Mayor to examine all checks at least once a month. The Council authorized Mr. Smith to make such repairs as necessary to the street between the Aggieland and Lipscomb pharmacies, pro- vided such repairs do not exceed $30040 in cost. I'V Mr. Smith was advised to notify property owners along the business • area at the North Gate that the Council would bear none of the costs of paving in front of their properties. Mr. Smith reported that he had offered the position of full re- sponsibility of office management to Mrs. Lucy L. Sneed at $225 per month but that Mrs. Sneed had declined, saying that she did not consider herself capable of assuming such responsibility. The Council then authorized Mr. Smith to pay Mrs. Sneed a full month's salary from August 15 to September 15. Mr. Smith reported that Mr. C. W. Rodgers had therefore been em- ployed as of August 15, and was instructed to have a bond written for Mr. Rodgers and himself, if the latter seemed advisable.
