HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/01/1940 - Regular Minutes - City Council Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the City Council, Thursday, Feb. 1,1940 The City Council of the City of College Station met in regular session in the City Office, with Aldermen Lipscomb, Orr, Jones, l and Wilcox in attendence. Mr. Wilcox presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Binney. Mr. Hughes, Chairman of the Utility Committee, Mr. Boughton, from College Hills Estates, Mr. Swearington, Mr. Burgess, I r. Brown, and Mr. Gorzycki met with the Council. • Mr. Boughton brought the plans and specifications for a City Offtce for the members of the Council to look over. The cost and terms of such an office would be as follows: cost- $ 1116.00; terms, $116.00 cash; note $1000.00; payment per month, $ 15.00; 6% inter- est. A suggestion was made by Mr. Orr that there was a possibil- ity of obtaining free office space on the Campus. Mr. Swearington told of the Utility situation in the addition in which he lives, and was assured by the Council that this probleni was being worked on atr:present by the city sanitary engineer. It was agreed that the water supply and fire plug situation in College Hills Estates was a serious one and that Mr. Barger be requested to contact Mr. Henderson of Bryan, and draw up a con- tract, whereby the situation might be improved. Mr. Brown also reported the necessity of fire plugs in College Hills Estates. Mr. Hughes reported on the utility valuations in which the city ( ) is interested. The following proposal was given by Mr. Burgess for the sale of Oakwood Utilities to the city and the purchase was agreed upon under the following terms: cost, $ 8500.00 to be paid at $ 60.00 per month, with interest at 4 %. First payment due on or before April 1 , 1940; subsequent payments on or before the first of each succeeding month. All or any part of the balance due may be paii at any time, and monthly payments will apply first to the inter- est and then to the principal. Any balance remaining due at the end' of 10 years from date of Feb. 1. 1940, shall be paid in one j sum. Mr. Burgess would retain a first mortgage lien against all �J utilities, additions, or extensions in this area until this ob- ligation is retired in full. A motion was made by Orr and secon4- ed by Jones that the proposition for the sale of Oakwood Utilities be accepted as stated. Motion carried unanimously. This purchase was to include the usual accllerated options. Mir. Burgess was to contact 11r. Barger to draw up a contract. Mr. Deaton met with' the Council to discuss the sale of a type- writer for the city office. The Council authorized the maintenance of the power lines in the north area for the sum of $ 775.00. t It was agreed that Mr. Hughes, Mr. Lipscomb, and Mr. Orr were to contact Mr. Walker to work out the City's electric rate to the new theater. The Council authorized the Assistant secretary to call Mr. Carli:z and assure him that the Council was agreeable to the proposed 00042 height of the Methodist Church.
