The regular meeting of t%le City Council was held on September 18 , 1939 at 7:30 B.M. in the city office wit) Mayor Binney presiding, and Aldermen Wilcox, Gabbard a d Jones, and City Engineer MoWew, City Attorney Barger a d �. � Court Judge Gorzycki in attendance. L. D. Smith, Mr. Seeger, Alton Boyett and E. L. Wil hams appeared before the City Council to request that the city take over not only power lines, but also the water and sewer lines in the north area. It was decid ed that representatives of this area meet with the Citk Engineer and the City Sanitary Engineer, to work out t! e details and report back to the Council. Mr. Atkins , manager of the Southwest Telephone Compa y fl of Bryan, came out in connection with the franchise Lot that company. He requested a meeting with Mr. Strick- land. Mr. McNew suggested that Dean Bolton and Mr. Wright meet as a committee to talk this over with Mr. Atkins. On motion of Wilcox and seconded by Gabbard , it carries that Dean Bolton and Mr. Wright work this problem out to the satisfaction of the city. A vote of thanks was accorded Yr. Atkins for being present. It was moved by Wilcox and seconded by Jones, to ac- cept letters of resignation from Alderman Wayne Long and City Marshall Hopper, as of September 13 , 1939. It was decided to call an election on October 2 , 1939, to elect a new alderman to fill the vacancy. It was moved by Wilcox and seconded by Gabbard to pass Ordinance No. 29: To Abolish the Office of City Marshall. Motion carried. It was moved by Gabbard and seconded by Jones to have � to have the office of Deputy City Marshall. It was moved by i.'ileox and seconded by Gabbard that Dean Bolton and Yr. Wright investigate the Gas Franchise and report et the next meeting. Motion carried . It was moved by Jones and seconded by Wilcox to Too' into the plans for building a 1600 to $2000 City Hall. Motion serried. Bill Murray appeared before the City Council to of er the cooperation of the Battalion in running news its s concerning the city. He also requested that the pro- Hems affecting the student body be discussed with re- presentatives of the students. He called attention to • 00027 (9' the need of better lighting at the entrance to Colleg from Highway 6. It was moved by Wilcox and seconded by Gabbard to put a telephone in the City Office.
