A duly celled special meeting. of the City Council
was held on March 6 , 1939 , in Room 400 Agricultural
Building, of the Agricultural and Mechanical College 'of
Texas , with mayor Binney presiding and Aldermen Gabbard ,
. Mitchell , Jones and Langford and City Attorney Barger
in attendance.
The following ordinance intorduced by Mitchell was
duly presented:
An ordinance providing for dispensing with the offices
of City Treasurer and City Assessor and Collector and
conferring the powers and duties of such of±ices u-on
the City Secretary.
Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Co.-
('� lege Station, Texas, that the offices of city treasurer
/ and city assessor and collector be and are hereby dis-
pensed with, and that the powers end duties prescribed
by - law for such officers be end hereby are conferred
upon the City Secretary.

Passed this 6th day of March , 1939 .

On motion of Mitchell and seconded by Langford the
ordinance was unanamously adopted.
It was moved by Mitchell and seconded by Langford
that the City Secretary when appointed should keep regu-
lar office hours on Thursday and Friday afternoons and
Satruday mornings during the remainder of this month
and that said officer should receive for his services
such amounts as the Council may later provide. The
11 motion unanamously carried.
The mayor announced the appointment of Sid L. Loveless
as City Secretary. Upon motion of Gabbard , seconded b;r
Jones, the appointment was unanamously approved b the
Council.
A letter from . the Chairman of the Community Chest
relative to a contriiAition to the City was read.
A letter from the Mayor and Council of the City of
Bryan, Texas, expressing good wishes and offering coop-
eration to the City and City officers of College Stet-
ion was read .
A resolution , introduced by Mitchell and seconded by
Langford , that the City Council hold regular meetings
every Thursday evening beginning at 7: 30 in Room 400 . 130003
Agricultural Building of the A. and M. College of
Texas was unanamously passed .
Meeting adjourned .
