RESOLUTION NO. 1-12-2006-13 .02
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION,
TEXAS, APPROVING THE COLLEGE STATION PORTION OF "MITIGATING RISK:
PROTECTING THE BRAZOS VALLEY FROM ALL HAZARDS, 2004 - 2009."
WHEREAS, certain areas of College Station are subject to periodic flooding and other natural and
man-caused hazards with the potential to cause damages to people and properties within the area,
and
WHEREAS, under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the United States Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) requires that local jurisdictions have in place a FEMA-approved
Hazard Mitigation Action Plan as a condition of receipt of certain future Federal mitigation funding
after November 1, 2004; and
WHEREAS, to assist cities and counties in meeting this requirement, the Brazos Valley Council of
Governments, with the assistance of H20 Partners, Inc. of Austin, Texas and the Texas A&M
University Spatial Sciences Center, has initiated development of a regional, multi-jurisdictional
Hazard Mitigation Plan covering 26 cities and seven counties, including the City of College Station,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION,
TEXAS:
PART 1:
That the City Council hereby approves those portions of the Plan entided, Mitigating
Risk: Protecting the Brazos Valley from All Hazards, 2004 - 2009, that pertain to The City
of College Station.
PART 2:
That the City Council hereby approves Brian Hilton, Emergency Management
Coordinator with the responsibility, authority, and the means to:
a. Inform all concerned parties of this action.
b. Develop an addendum to this Hazard Mitigation Plan if College Station's unique
situation warrants such an addendum.
PART 3:
That the City Council hereby agrees to appoint the Emergency Management
Coordinator to assure that the Hazard Mitigation Plan be reviewed at least annually
and that any needed adjustment to the City of College Station addendum to the
Hazard Mitigation Plan be developed and presented to the City Council for
consideration.
PART 4:
That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage.
