AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 6, SECTION l-B(3) OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, RELATING TO
FIRE LANE MARKINGS.
WHEREAS, on the23rd day of __~, 1990, the City
Council met and considered evidence concerning fire lane
markings; and
WHEREAS, the City Councll has determined the necessity to
amend Chapter 6, Section 1-B(3) (602.6.8) of the Code of
Ordinances;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS:
That Chapter 6, Section 1-B(3) (602.6.8), of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of College Station is hereby amended to
read as follows:
"602.6.8 Fire Lane Markings
(a)
The owner, manager, or person in charge of any building
or property to which fire lanes have been approved or
required by the fire official or his authorized
representative shall mark and maintain said fire lanes
in the following manner:
All curbs and curb ends shall be painted red with
four inch (4") white lettering stating "NO PARKING
- FIRE LANE - TOW AWAY ZONE". Wording may not be
spaced more than fifteen feet (15') apart.
In areas where fire lanes are reguired but no
continuous curb is available, one of the following
methods shall be used, in conjunction with the curb
markings, to indicate that the fire lane is continuous:
option $1: A sign twelve inches (12") wide and
eighteen inches (18") in height shall be mounted
in a conspicuous location at each entrance to the
property. (See Diagram No. i for specifications
on colors and lettering.)
Option $2: From the point the fire lane begins to
the point the fire lane ends, including behind all
parking spaces which adjoin a fire lane, shall be
marked with one continuous eight inch (8") inch
red stripe painted on the drive surface behind the
parking spaces. All curbing adjoining a fire lane
must be painted red. Red stripes and curbs will
contain the wording "NO PARKING-FIRE LANE-TOW AWAY
ZONE", painted in four inch (4") white letters.
("Figure A" in Ordinance No 1630 illustrates
striping on drive surface behind parking spaces.)
(b)
In some cases where curb markings are not possible or
where signs would in the Fire Official's opinion work
more effectively, he can require them in lieu of curb
markings.
(c)
For two years immediately following the passage of this
ordinance, fire lanes marked in yellow with black
lettering will have the same effect as fire lanes
marked in red with white lettering. Immediately after
this two year period, only fire lanes marked in red
with white lettering will be effective."
II.
This ordinance shall become effective from and after its passage
in accordance with the City Charter of the City of College
Station.
