AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10, SECTION 3-E(2)(G), OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION RELATING TO
SPEED ZONES, SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATING ADDITIONAL AREAS IN THE
CITY OF COLLEGE STATION IN WHICH HATES OF SPEED OF THIRTY (30)
MILES PER HOUR OR MORE ARE AUTHORIZED; RESCINDING ALL PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING THAT ATTENDANT
FACTS NECESSITATE IMMEDIATE ACTION.
WHEREAS, completion of the extension of FM 2818 from Business
SH 6 R (Texas Avenue) to the Emerald Parkway Interchange on
the SH 6 East Bypaes is expected during the spring of 1991~
WHEREAS, Texas law states that the maximum speed limit through
an urban district is 30 m.p.h, unless zoned by the proper
authority;
WHEREAS, the City of College Station has the authority by City
ordinance to alter maximum prima facie speed limits; and
WHEREAS, the design speed for this section of highway is 45
m.p.h.;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLLEGE STATION THAT:
Chapter 10, Section 3-E(2)(g), of the Code of Ordinances of
the City of College Station relating to speed zones is hereby
amended to read as follows:
(g)
FM 2818, for traffic moving in a southerly
direction for the first 3.697 miles from the
north city limit, the speed limit shall be
fifty-five (55) miles per hour. For the next
0.200 mile, the speed limit shall be fifty (50)
miles per hour. For the next 0.370 mile, the
speed limit shall be forty-five (45) miles per
hour. For the next 0.950 mile, the speed limit
shall be fifty (50) miles per hour. Within the
limits of said fifty (50) miles per hour speed
zone from approximately 190' north of Welsh
Avenue, to approximately 220~ south of Nueces
Drive, the speed limit shall be thirty-five
(35) miles per hour when so signed for school
zone. For the next 0.470 mile, the speed limit
shall be forty-five (45) miles per hour. For

the next 0.250 mile, to the intersection of
Business SH 6 R (Texas Avenue), the speed limit
shall be forty (40) miles per hour.
FM 2818, for traffic moving in an eastward
direction for the first 0.595 miles from
the intersection of Business SH 6 R (Texas
Avenue), the speed limit shall be forty
(40) miles per hour. For the next 0.204
miles, the speed limit shall be thirty-
five (35) miles per hour to the intersec-
tion of SH 6 East Frontage Road.
~ 2818, for traffic moving in a westward
direction, for the first 0.204 miles from
the intersection of SH 6 East Frontage
Road, the speed limit shall be thirty-five
(35) miles per hour. For the next 0.595
miles, the speed limit shall be forty (40)
miles per hour to the intersection of
Business SH 6 R (Texas Avenue).
FM 2818, for traffic moving in a northerly
direction, for the first 0.250 mile from
the intersection of Business SH 6 R (Texas
Avenue), the speed limit shall be forty
(40) miles per hour. For the next 0.470
mile, the speed limit shall be forty-five
(45) miles per hour. For the next 0.950
mile, the speed limit shall be fifty (50)
miles per hour. Within the limits of said
fifty (50) miles per hour speed zone from
approximately 220~ south of Nueces Drive,
to approximately 190~ north of Welsh
Avenue, the speed limit shall be thirty-
five (35) miles per hour when so signed
for school zone. For the next 0.370 mile,
the speed limit shall be forty-five (45)
miles per hour. For the next 0.200 mile,
the speed limit shall be fifty (50) miles
per hour. For the next 3.697 mile, to the
north city limit, the speed limit shall be
fifty-five (55) miles per hour.
II.
The preservation of the general welfare of the public necessi-
tates immediate action; this Ordinance shall be effective from
and after the date of its passage as provided by the Charter
of the City of College Station.

III.
This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval by the City
Council and duly attested by the Mayor and City Secretary.
