AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10, SECTION 2F, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION RELATING TO SCHOOL
ZONES, AND DECLARING THAT ATTENDANT FACTS NECESSITATE IMMEDI-
ATE ACTION.
WHEREAS, the city Council met at its regular meeting on Novem-
ber 12, 1992, and found that it would be in the best interest
and safety of the citizens to amend Chapter 10, Section 2F, of
the Code of Ordinances by extending the existing school zone
on Francis Drive to the west to include the Walton/Francis
intersection and by adding a school zone on Walton Drive in
the vicinity of this intersection, with a maximum speed limit
of 20 mph from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and 3=00 p.m to 3=45
p.m., Monday through Friday, more particularly described as
follows=
Francis Drive from the existing school
zone boundary located south of Williams
Street south to the center of the right-
of-way on Walton Street, then on Francis
from the center line of the right-of-way
on Walton to a point 115 feet north of the
center line of the right-of-way of James
Parkway; and
Walton Drive, from the center line of the
right-of-way of Francis Drive to a point
500 feet to the west and Walton Drive from
the center line of the right-of-way of
Francis Drive to a point 500 feet to the
east.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLLEGE STATION TEAT~
That Chapter 10, Section 2F, of the Code of Ordinances is
hereby amended as follows:
"F. SCHOOL ZONES
The city hereby designates school zones on certain
streets. A maximum speed limit designated in the Tra~
Control Device Inventory - Schedule V (dated November 12,
1992) during the hours designated by this ordinance on
Ordinance No. 1986 Page 2
regularly scheduled days is established within the desig-
nated school zones except school zones on state highways
where the maximum speed limit shall be determined by the
State Department of Public Transportation. The deslg-
nated school zone speed limits and the hours regulating
the time of day that each zone is in effect are described
in Traffic Control Device Inventory - Schedule V (dated
November 12, 1992) on file in the office of the City Sec-
retary. A current schedule shall be maintained by the
City Secretary at all times."
II.
The preservation of the general welfare of the public necessi-
tates immediate action. This Ordinance shall be effective
from and after the date of its passage as provided by the
Charter of the City of College Station.
