HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/30/2010 - Special Minutes City Council MayorCouncil members Ben White John Crompton Mayor Pro Tem James Massey Dave Ruesink Dennis Maloney City Manager Katy-Marie Lyles Glenn BrownLawrence Stewart Minutes College Station City Council Special Meeting Tuesday, March 30, 2010 7:00 p.m. City Hall Council Chambers, 1101 Texas Avenue College Station, Texas COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor White, Mayor Pro Tem Ruesink, Council members Crompton, Massey, Maloney, Lyles and Stewart STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Brown,AssistantCity Manager Neeley, Assistant City Manager Merrill, City Attorney Cargill Jr., City Secretary Hooks, Deputy City Secretary McNutt, Management Team Mayor White called meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Presentation, possible action, and discussion among the City Council members regarding a request for consent to incorporate submitted to the City of College Station by Citizens for Wellborn. Council members expressed their points of view about several issues related to the request made by the Discussion was held on the origin of College Station and Wellborn, ETJ laws, and incorporation steps. Council also discussed possible options to protect the integrity of Wellborn historic area, ranch lands, and agricultural areas in Wellborn. City Attorney Cargill, Jr. Station residents based on the fact that there is no provision for an initiative petition process in the statute related to incorporation process. Mayor and Council members discussed the viability of growth for College Station in south Brazos County. Bob Cowell, Director of Planning and Development Services an adjacent municipality is not a benefit to this City and its residents. A goal of the City was to protect the growth of College Station. He expressed other negative factors to College Station citizens if Wellborn were incorporated. Council expressed their desire toward an amicable solution in these matters. Adjourn.
