HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-26-09-2p - Resolution - 03/26/2009RESOLUTION NO. 03- 2 6 -09 -2p A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE UNIVERSAL FREIGHT SHUTTLE CONCEPT. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation has published a request for information for concepts for new low carbon emitting freight transportation facilities; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station, located in Brazos Valley, supports development of transportation infrastructure that will increase employment opportunities in the Brazos Valley; and WHEREAS, a region's ability to efficiently and cleanly move freight improves that region's desirability for the location of manufacturing and distribution facilities; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station has followed the development of the Universal Freight Shuttle being developed jointly by the Texas Transportation Institute and Freight Shuttles Partners, LLC; and WHEREAS, the Universal Freight Shuttle would reduce the volume of truck traffic and provide a faster, cleaner method of moving freight in the Brazos Valley; and WHEREAS, the Universal Freight Shuttle could be built in the existing rights of way of US -281, US -44, US -77, and US -59 supporting the I -69 project, as well as in the existing rights of way of US -190 and 1 -35 supporting the Gulf Coast Strategic Highway project; and now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1. That the facts and recitations set forth in the preamble of this resolution are hereby declared true and correct. PART 2. That the City of College Station hereby supports the further development of the Universal Freight Shuttle concept. PART 3. That the City of College Station welcomes the location of the Universal Freight Shuttle in the Brazos Valley linking other Texas intermodal transportation destinations with a terminal in Brazos County to include, but not be limited to, Fort Hood at Killeen and Fort Bliss at El Paso to the west following the existing US -190 and I -10 rights of way, to Fort Polk in Leesville, Louisiana to the east following the existing US -190 and SH -63 rights of way to US- 59/ I -69 with routes north to Texarkana and south to Houston, and to I -35 with a route north to Dallas /Fort Worth and south to Laredo.
