This is WTAW, the First 100 Years, I'm Tom Turbiville. Back in 1979, WTAW was Jami
Mayberry's first radio job, with no experience but a load of natural talent. She found a career.

So I got to be on my favorite hometown FM country station, and I was like, “Hey!”, and I just
loved everybody. I loved the studio at the time, was-- had, as far as I was concerned, great
equipment, and I'd never seen anything like that before. I was rarin’ to go, so, Jim Miller said to
me, “You know, you're a natural at this and you're doing things that can't be taught. You could
make a career of this if you wanted to”. Well, I was in college to be an elementary school teacher
and I went, “Hmm, teaching radio. I think radio sounds more fun”.

Fast forward 34 years where gigs included WSM and WSIX in Nashville.

So, I decided to slow down a little bit. You know, I'd hit like 50 and I'm like, “You know, I can't
do this forever, and I'm a single career woman and I gotta-- I gotta have a quality of life”, and I
thought back to one of my favorite places to ever be and live and that was in Aggieland. I heard
there was a job offer here at Peace 107. All my Nashville friends are like, “Why are you
moving?”, and I'm like, “No, it's a great place. You'd love it. You need to go and check it out”.
Well, I did not know that the-- the owner of Peace 107 also owned WTAW.

Not until she got a tour and was shown the WTAW studio.

That was the first station I was ever on in my life. And I've had, you know, a 40-year radio
career.
