This is WTAW, the First 100 Years, I'm Tom Turbiville. We've all heard stories of employees
moving across the street, as it were, as in suddenly leaving one employer to go work for a
competitor. WTAW's parent company, Bryan Broadcasting, has some longtime employees right
now who came over from KORA. And here's an interesting case of Frank Sosolik. He was the
WTAW manager and chief engineer for nine years in the 1940s, when the station was owned by
Texas A&M, called the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas ; that was until February of
1949. And that's when Frank walked across the street to KORA, not as an engineer, but as the
manager and a 49% owner. According to his 2004 obituary, Frank Sosolik had worked in
Houston for KTRH and KPRC before going to work for WTAW, and after KORA, he owned
Sosolik Radio and TV Service. So, here's a guy who went from engineering four different radio
stations, to managing 2 radio stations, to owning one radio station, and then evidently to his first
love, fixing radios. (chuckles) Another of the cast of characters of WTAW, the First 100 Years.
