She has been coming to our office for 45 years; in sales, on air, in the community. A volunteer's volunteer who just can't say no. But the real question is, how did Mary Mike Hatcher come by that middle name? 00:00:44 Mary Mike Hatcher (MMH) When I walked in that very first day, and I peeked in the news director who was Steve Stites at that time, I looked through his window and saw Joe and Sam. Joe said, “Oh, there's Mike!”, and everybody looked and I looked. I go, “Well, where's Mike?”. He goes, “Well, we're just going to call you Mike because my middle name is Michael, Mary Michael Hatcher”. Everybody thought I changed my name when I was on the air to associate myself with a microphone. That is incorrect. That is a false rumor. Mary Michael Hatcher is my name, so Mary Mike or Mike became my moniker. 00:01:23 (TT) Now, Mary Mike's very first day that she showed up for work. 00:01:26 (MMH) I started September 2nd, 1977. Well, nobody told me that it was Labor Day, so here I am in my sales attire, and that's what I was hired as- as a salesperson for WTAW. Nobody was at work that day except the air staff. 00:01:41 (TT) Now, Mary Mike spoke of Joe Monroe. He was Muck. Mary Mike was Meyer. Longtime listeners may remember The Muck and Meyer Morning Show. It's a big part of the history of WTAW, the First 100 Years.
