I'm Tom Turbiville. August 23rd, 1955, it was the day that Elvis Presley performed at Tabor Road Arena in Bryan. And the man responsible for Elvis and the Louisiana Hayride making a stop here was A.J. Wynn. 00:00:42 Scott DeLucia (SD) A.J. Wynn was the only radio star we've ever had here. There's no doubt about that. I mean, when Elvis Presley comes because you were there, when Hank Williams stops because you were there, I mean, he was hierarchy sitting in College Station, Texas. 00:00:55 TT Scott DeLucia is certainly right. When A.J. Wynn died in 2010 at the age of 94, his obituary, surely written by his son Buddy Wynn, told the story of this guitar picker and fiddler from Leon County who eventually would become one of the top DJs in the country, spinning records for WTAW. That bond started in 1947 when AJ Wynn and the Melody Playboys landed a gig at the station playing a one-hour show every Saturday. Six months later, it was a three-hour show, six days a week. And AJ was a disc jockey for WTAW, his daily sign-off. This is your old DJ AJ, saying, so long, keep those cards and letters coming. If the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be here tomorrow, same time, same place, WTAW 1150 on your dial. AJ Wynn, a giant of WTAW, the first 100 years.
