I'm Tom Turbiville. So, what current WTAW employee has been walking in the door to work the longest? Well, for sure, there are some long-timers at this station. There's not a lot of turnover. But by far, no one has drawn a paycheck from WTAW longer than the main infomaniac Scott DeLucia. Then manager Bill Watkins hired Scott in 1968 when he was the 16-year-old A&M Consolidated Junior, wanted him to do some sports. 00:00:57 Scott DeLucia (SD) I was playing football, had A&M Consolidated, and uh, I ended up getting my bell rung at a game in Conroe, and Mom said, that's the end of that. Uh, the Brian Eagle needed a correspondent for Consolidated, and so Edsel Jones, who was the coach at Consolidated, recommended me for that job. 00:01:13 TT So, this was 1967. Scott was stringing for the Eagle while WTAW was broadcasting the Consol e game. 00:01:20 SD And there I was on the other side of the glass, and Bill Watkins saw me, and ah, he started interviewing me saying, well, let's have our friend from the Eagle come over and talk about halftime. So, I did some kind of an analysis type thing. The next year, they hired me to go ahead and be the color man for A&M Consolidated. 00:01:37 TT And that led to play by play for Console football and basketball. That led to a DJ job. And although Scott DeLucia has left and come back a couple of times to Beaumont and to Temple, his history here dates back 54 years. Yeah, the math is easy. He's been here more than half of WTAW's first 100 years.
