This is WTAW, the First 100 Years, I'm Tom Turbiville. In the early days of WTAW, we're
talking about 1927, WTAW programming was making headlines all over the state. The Austin
American-Statesman on January 11th of ‘27 promoted the programming that would be coming
up in the first three months of the year, and quoted the superintendent of the station, W.H.
Darrow. The article went on to say that two nights a week, Tuesday and Friday nights, the
programs would start at 7 o'clock, and the first half hour would be devoted to short educational
talks. Now this would be supplemented by musical numbers, and who would be providing the
music? Well, students and faculty of Texas A&M; that would start at 7:30. He went on to say that
in January, the schedule was going to start three series of short educational lectures. Tuesday
nights would be devoted to agricultural talks, and Friday night's talk would be within the field of
science and liberal arts. The talks on poultry raising would be included; that would be given by
V.R. Glasner, Poultry Husband Man. Now get this, Superintendent Darrow of WTAW also made
the exciting announcement that mimeographed copies of the poultry lecture would be sent free of
charge to listeners if they would just write in and ask for them. This is WTAW, The First 100
Years.
