Dick Bolin talking. Here's the latest news from the Associated Press. 00:00:07 Associated Press (AP) He got a touchdown. Oh, doctor! 00:00:10 Speaker 3 News and Talk, WTAW. ……………. 00:00:13 Tom Turbiville (TT) This is WTAW, the first 100 years. I'm Tom Turbiville. It is hard to believe that WTAW and all its partner stations have been located on the 5th floor of the Crystal Park Plaza building on the bypass for 30 years now. It was quite an undertaking and the foreman of the job, our chief engineer, Chris Dusty Dusterhoff. 00:00:36 Chris Dusterhoff (CD) We didn't have a location for a transmitter site. We didn't have a tower. We didn't have a building. We didn't have a studio. It was an exciting time because it was the first radio station that I got to build that was brand new, because I'd never put in a-a brand-new AM radio station and, done all the groundwork that needed to be done before we put the tower in the air and, getting to watch a tower get-, get built was-, was interesting in itself. Also being able to build a studio. It's the first time I ever, built a studio without anybody breathing down my neck because I need to get in here. Every other studio we've built, we had to take somebody, put them in a closet to be able to work temporarily, go put their studio back together, and then move them back into the new studio. And this one, we had a little bit of time to, be able to build out the studio and put every-, everything in there that you needed without anybody needing to use it yet because th-mm, the actual 1620 signal wasn't ready yet. To the listener, they didn't know the difference. We stayed on 1150. We did a little bit of testing on 1620. We have a tradition here at Bryan Broadcasting. Every station goes on at the same beginning. The owner, uh, and president, Mr. Hicks, says his name. Vice President, General Manager, Ben Downs, says his name. I'd said my name. Then we play Amazing Grace and then we play the War Hymn. 00:01:52 TT And just like that, Dusty Dusterhoff built a radio station, WTAW, the first 100 years.
