This is WTAW, the first 100 years. I'm Tom Turbiville. This series has mentioned many times the
WTAW Old Morning Show, Muck and Meyer, and Joe Monroe. Well, Joe was Muck. He had
several Meyers. Including Mary Mike Hatcher.

And I worked in sales. It was a very small sales staff, five people. Within two years, I was on the
air with Joe Monroe because the previous partner, Sam Jones, had taken a job out of the city.
First female host of the Muck and Myer show, of course, Muck and Myer has ceased to exist
anymore.

And Sam Jones.
00:00:53 Sam Jones (SJ)
Just naturally, because of the age difference between me and Joe, he was from my parents'
generation, my persona was... the young know-it-all punk, and-, and Joe was the older dude.
[Laughter] It's the best way I can describe him. But he and I just, man, we hit it off just-, just
from the get-go. Uh, it was, -and the show was much more shtick than it was music. You-You'd
play an occasional record, and the rest of the time there would be banter, uh, and live
commercials, and we had a lot of fun.

And? Scott DeLucia.
00:01:28 Scott Delucia (SD)
One of the other things that Joe Monroe did was he worked in Corpus Christi at a station down
there, but he also had an advertising agency. And one of his clients was Whataburger, this burger
chain that started in Corpus Christi. And if you're old enough, you'll remember an ad slogan,
which was Whataburger, the Magnificent Nooner??. And Joe Monroe was the one who came up
with that. When Whataburger started, Joe Monroe was their advertising agency.
