Meeting Minutes
February 2, 2026

1. Call to Order and Consideration of Absence Requests
The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m.
Karen Story and Sherry Frisk requested excused absences; Tre Watson was unexcused.
2. Hear Visitors
None.
3. Agenda Items
3.1 Approval of Minutes from the Previous Meeting
Upon a motion made by Bradford Lancaster and a second by Lisa Mouton, the minutes were
approved with the correction to the address under section 3.2 (B) it should read 607 Old
Jersey Street. The motion was unanimous.
3.2 Reports
A. Cemetery
No report
B. Historical Marker Program / Project HOLD Report
Comer Patterson expressed concerns regarding current houses that have been awarded a
Historical Marker but have since undergone significate redesign. The Committee discussed
the process for retraction of a Designated Historical Marker. The Committee requested to
add the Historical Marker Application to the next meeting for review and possible updates.
Nicole Cross is working on getting a volunteer to help transcribe the Southside Oral History
Interviews.
C. Exploring History Lunch Series
All 2026 program dates have been scheduled; Carla Elliot has asked for each member to
email her three potential speakers for 2027.
D. America’s 250
Lisa Mouton will reach out to Henry Mayo to see if she can assist him with creating a
community calendar for all America’s 250 events.
3.3 Liaison Report – Parks and Recreation
I Heart America Celebration will be July 4th @ WPC, volunteer opportunities are available
and we will reach out the Committee. The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial is also having a
ceremony at Veterans Park the morning of July 4th.
3.4 Upcoming Local or Area Historical Programs
Brazos Valley African American Museum Banquet is March 21, @ 6 p.m. at the Brazos
Center.
4. Discussion and Possible Action on Future Agenda Items
Historic Marker Application review, and The Museum research that Comer Patterson
handed out.
5. Adjourn
Upon a motion made by Bradford Lancaster and seconded by Carla Elliot, the Committee
voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 5:08 p.m.
