Members Present: Margaret Carmichael, Jon Denton, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Jerry
Markowich, Robert Meyer, Pearl Robertson, Ron Silvia and Patricia Vanderboom
Members Absent: Susan McGrail
Staff Present: Dana Albrecht and Marci Rodgers
I.Call to order
The meeting was called to order at 10:02 am by Frank Duchmasclo,

II.Hear visitors
Dana Albrecht was introduced to the committee
III.Approval of minutes from regular meeting on August 27, 2012
Jerry Markowich
made the motion to approve the minutes. Pearl Robertson seconded the motion. The
motion was approved unanimously.
IV.Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning program sub-
committee report regarding upcoming programs and events

Pearl Robertson and Joanna Yeager met on September 12 to discuss the October
Calendar. The committee received a copy of the calendar. Highlights for October

include: Fall Fest on the 11 with a new time (5-7pm), Transitions of Life with a new
time 11:30-1:30 with a light lunch served, Antique Show and Tell and Senior World
Passport Program. Frank Duchmasclo reported on the success of the Bluegrass Jam
Session. Mr. Duchmasclo gave an update on the unfortunate event of a visitor who
required medical attention.
V.Discussion, consideration and possible action on gathering information on senior
programs offered at other senior centers
The committee received information on
the Allen Baca Center for Senior and Community Activities. Frank Duchmasclo
asked who would be interested in visiting the center. Ann Hays, Robert Meyer,
Margaret Carmichael, and Pearl Robertson (if available) along with Frank

Duchmasclo agreed to tour the center on Tuesday, October 23. The group will meet
at Southwood Community Center at 8:00 am. The purpose for the visit is to allow an
opportunity for new members who have never seen a senior center to visit one.
VI.Discussion and possible action concerning the Senior Advisory Committee
Goals FY 2012
One of the committee goals is to Promote Healthy Lifesytle
Programs for Seniors. Jon Denton reported on the recent meeting of the College
Station Senior Games. The Parks and Recreation Department received approval from
city council to budget $8,000.00 toward the senior games. Mr. Denton stated that
State Games Board of Directors will meet in November and they must approve the
application from the city to host the local games. Peter Lamont will serve as the
director for the senior games. Mr. Denton mentioned that the department is
expecting at least 400 participants and the games will be held in May, 2013.
Ron Silvia agreed to look at the current mission statement for the Senior Advisory
committee along with Jon Denton and Margaret Carmichael they will meet on

Thursday, September 27 at Southwood Community Center to discuss the statement
and present an updated version to the committee at its next regular meeting in
October.
VII.Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events

Marci Rodgers reported that fall classes are off to a slow start. Enrollment is down
from previous sessions. The new Fit & Be Strong class is popular with 22
participants. We have a new sponsor for bingo next month. Home Instead Senior
Care will call and provide prizes. The next Exploring Lunch Lecture will be “Hidden
Treasures of the Cushing Library” at Aldersgate Church.
VIII.Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
