I.Call to order
The meeting was called to order at 10:02 am by Frank Duchmasclo,

II.Hear visitors
No Visitors Present
III.New Board Member Introductions
Chairman Frank Duchmasclo introduced
Mabelene Robinson and Margaret Carmichael to the committee. Members of the
committee then introduced themselves.
IV.Approval of minutes from regular meeting on July 30, 2012
Robert Meyer made
the motion to approve the minutes. Jerry Markowich seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
V.Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning program sub-
committee report regarding upcoming programs and events
The programs sub-

committee met on August 14 to discuss the September activity calendar. A copy of
the September calendar was available for the committee to review. Highlights for
th
September include: registration for fall classes will begin on September 4, the Senior
World Passport Program begins along with several choices for fitness and exercise
classes. A free demonstration on how to make scented candles will be held on
th
Friday, September 14 and the Exploring History Lunch lecture will be held at
Aldersgate Church. The topic will be on Texas A&M Corps of Cadets History.

The program sub-committee will meet on Wednesday, September 12 at 9:30 am at
Southwood Community Center.
VI.Discussion and possible action concerning the Senior Advisory Committee Goals
FY 2012
The committee reviewed the current goals. Copies of discounts for seniors
are available at Southwood Community Center.
VII.Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (See Attached)
Marci Rodgers reviewed the report and included attendance figures for the month of
July and current and future events and programs at Southwood Community Center.
Kelly Kelbly updated the committee on youth activities scheduled for the fall.

Southwood will be open from 3:00 - 6:00 pm for 6 – 9 graders throughout the
school year. The membership fee for youth is $30.00 /year. Transportation to the
center from the middle schools is available for $50.00 and includes 25 rides.
“Come & Skate It” Competition at the G. Hysmith Skate Park will take place on
st
Saturday, September 1 from 11:00am – 5:00 pm. Skaters compete in their age group
in a variety of events for prizes. Games will be available inside Southwood
Community Center. Spectators are invited to join the fun and get in free.
VIII.Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
