One, you can call the Planner on Call and they can assist you. When the GIS page comes onto your screen, scroll down to choose the link for General Map. On this map, select the zoning layer on the right side and search for your property by address at the bottom of the page. The map will identify the color associated with the zoning district. On the top of the page, you’ll find a yellow “i” inside of a red circle. Select this symbol and then click on your property. The zoning information will be displayed on the bottom of the page. The pur-pose of the new Plan is to create a document that can help guide decisions about the future growth and development of our community. Thank you for your interest! Page 12 Volume 10 I ssue 4 With summer quickly approaching, there are some things in Code Enforcement that never change. Move outs bring large piles of debris, overtime for Public Works employees, and the evitable scavengers looking for one man’s treasure. We also typically see a slowing of loud party reports as students go home for the summer break. Lastly, with spring rains and the rising summer temperatures comes an increased need for vegetation management, and thus a rise in the number of weeds and grass cases. This vegetation management, or lack thereof, is regulated by Chapter 7, Section 1.C of the Code of Ordinances. It basically states that all residential and commercial properties in the City need to be maintained so that the weeds and grass do not exceed 12 inches in height. Three exemptions to this ordinance are areas that are zoned Agricultural-Open (A-O), State highway rights-of-ways, and the areas of lots which are heavily wooded. The last exemption pertains to persons which are cultivating wildflowers from March 1st until June 15th. There are also provisions in the ordinance that spell out procedures for notification and correction of offending properties. Enforcement of Health and Sanitation ordinances is one of the most important responsibilities given to local code enforcement officers. Effective management of weeds and grass also plays a role in helping enhance the City’s image. Last year, four code enforcement officers processed 1,482 weeds and grass cases. This year 280 cases have been managed to date. Cases vary from an empty commercial lot waiting to be developed to a single-family property where the resident has a broken lawn mower. In each case, the owner is ultimately responsible for the care and custody of their property. Thanks for your assistance in this regard -we are very fortunate to have such responsive citizens.
